Privacy Policy

Last updated: 7/21/26

Outset (“the app,” “we,” “us”) is designed to help you leave on time. This policy explains what information the app handles and how. The short version: Outset is built to work without collecting your personal data on our servers, because we do not operate any servers or user accounts.

Who we are

Outset is provided by David Arias (“the developer”). You can reach us at Outset.Support@gmail.com.

Information the app handles

Outset works primarily on your device. The following data is created and used to make the app function, and — except where noted for iCloud sync — stays on your device:

We do not collect data on our servers

Outset has no accounts, no login, and no developer-operated servers or databases. We do not receive, store, or have access to your schedules, location, records, or app selections.

iCloud sync

If you are signed in to iCloud, your Outset data (such as your records and settings) may sync across your own devices using Apple’s iCloud (CloudKit). This data is stored in your personal iCloud account under Apple’s control, not ours; we cannot access it. Apple’s handling of iCloud data is governed by Apple’s Privacy Policy. You can manage or disable iCloud in your device Settings.

Location

Outset uses location to estimate travel time to your destination and to detect when you leave a home area. Depending on the feature, the app may request “When In Use” or “Always” access; “Always” access allows the app to detect your departure even when it is not open, which is core to how Outset works. Location is used on your device and via Apple’s Maps services to calculate estimated travel time. We do not collect a history of your movements, transmit your location to ourselves, or use it for advertising. You can change or revoke location access at any time in device Settings.

Screen Time / app limiting (Family Controls)

To help you stay off distracting apps before you leave, Outset uses Apple’s Screen Time technologies (Family Controls / Managed Settings). When you choose apps to limit, Apple provides the app with opaque tokens rather than a readable list; these tokens stay on your device and are used only to apply the limits you configured. We do not learn which specific apps you selected and do not transmit this information anywhere.

Calendar

If you enable calendar-based departures, Outset reads events from your calendar on your device to suggest departures. Calendar data is used on-device for this purpose and is not transmitted to us. You can revoke calendar access at any time in device Settings.

Purchases

Outset offers optional paid features through Apple’s In-App Purchase system. Payments and subscription status are handled by Apple; we do not receive or store your payment card details. Apple may share limited transaction information with us as described in Apple’s terms. Manage or cancel subscriptions in your Apple account settings.

Analytics and tracking

Outset does not use third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking software, and does not track you across other apps or websites.

Children

Outset is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Because the app does not collect personal data on our servers, no such data is gathered in any case.

Your choices

You control the permissions Outset uses (location, notifications, calendar, Screen Time) through your device Settings and can change them at any time. Deleting the app removes its on-device data; data synced to your iCloud can be managed through your Apple account.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the app evolves. Material changes will be reflected here with a new “Last updated” date.
